At the moment I am really struggling with getting things done. I am becoming an expert at procrastinating, putting things off, pottering in the garden doing the complete opposite of what I should be doing and eating biscuits. I find it really hard to sit down and plough through my ‘to-do’ lists for the ridiculous reason that I genuinely find it difficult to work admist chaos and mess and that is all that I am currently surrounded by! Parades of builders, plumbers, tilers and electricians seem to have taken up squatters rights and in the meantime there is nowhere to put anything. I can’t move on until it is all sorted out, so I’ve decided to finally get on with it and tackle the piles of stuff that started when Burt was born and have since grown, taken on a life of their own, had ‘relations’ and procreated.
The question is what to do with it all? I am not a very accomplished declutterer so one of the things that has been putting me off tackling the ‘stuff’ mountain is that I am not sure what to do with it all. The easiest option would be to plonk it all in the skip on the driveway that we’ve got for all the builder’s rubbish but that’s not very environmentally friendly and a waste of space in a good skip, so instead I could donate my unwanted household goods to charity. It seems a shame to take everything to a local charity shop as it would be nice to make a little bit of money to put towards the building work we’re having done but on the other hand I would feel like I had ‘done my bit’ and I could get rid of the lot in one go.
I’ve thought about loading up the car and taking everything to a local car boot sale but I haven’t been to a car boot in many years and actually the idea feels a bit daunting. What do I charge for everything? Would anyone buy any of the ‘stuff’ I have to sell? Do I really have to get there very early? If you are a seasoned car booter then I’d love to know if you’ve got any tips.
I know that if you use Music Magpie you can get money for your unwanted CDs and DVDs and they have even added clothing to the categories of items they will now take. This idea is quite appealing as it feels like I can sell stuff for free and if I collect all my piles and sell everything through them then the cash will quickly add up and I can still get rid of the mountains of goodness-knows-what in one go.
All I need now is the motivation to get going but the sun has just come out and it would be a shame to spend the day indoors…
